Maturation & Sexual Reproduction
A gradual and gentle sex education can be achieved by observing each child’s questions and curiosity. Study each child; watch how they react; listen to the guidance of the Holy Spirit in determining what, when, and how much to share with each child. Create an ongoing dialogue with opportunities for children to ask questions whenever they have them. Younger children may not be ready to learn everything in this unit. We strongly suggest that you, as parents, read through this entire unit ahead of time. Use a highlighter and a pen to take notes and mark certain passages that you want to emphasize, or even cross off parts that you disagree with or that make you feel uncomfortable. Throughout the unit, discussion questions are underlined. As you pre-read the unit, write down notes and questions that you would like to discuss with your child/children. Think of personal experiences you wish to share and make notes. Pray for guidance to know how best to teach this unit with each child. Plan which lessons you will teach each child now and which lessons you will wait to teach until the child is older.
This unit is very detailed in the information it contains. However, beyond a few tastefully illustrated diagrams of sexual anatomy, there are no images or illustrations that show nudity. Parents who want their children to see more detailed images can easily supplement with a picture book on the subject. A full sample of the unit is available below so you can be aware of everything in the unit prior to purchase.
This unit takes a non-denominational Christian view that the purpose of sex education is to train children to live virtuous, chaste lives, and that sex is designed by God to be between a husband and wife.
Bible references are from the King James Version of the Bible. In the lessons, Bible references are in purple text. Consider opening the family Bible or a personal copy of the Bible to read these scriptures with the children.
This unit is designed to be a gentle approach to teaching maturation and sexual reproduction in the home. As parents, prayerfully decide whether it would be best to teach one-on-one with each child or as a family. Families with children close in age may choose family instruction. Even if you choose family instruction, ongoing private instruction and openness is important.

Science units are not spiral-bound because so many pages need to be cut, removed, or copied. Units are not three-hole punched because they contain items such as mini books and vocabulary-wall words. Many customers hole-punch their units after removing the portions they’d like to keep whole and use a 3-ring binder to keep everything organized.
Most of the science units do not need to be taught in any particular order. They are designed for you to choose when you want to teach each subject. However, we do recommend that Introduction to Energy is completed before Energy; Heat, Light, and Sound.
Most pages in the science units are non-consumable; mini books, instructions to the teacher, charts, experiment instructions, and so on. However, each unit contains a small number of pages that are consumable, such as worksheets for the children.
You only need to purchase one copy per family or group. The printed packets will also come with a PDF download of the unit so that you may print any additional pages you’ll need if teaching more than one child.
The science units do not need to be taught in any particular order. They are designed for you to choose when you want to teach each subject. Each unit has a varying number of lessons, and each will take a different amount of time to complete. We recommend that you complete at least 2 science lessons a week. When printing the science units, make sure you print the consumable pages single-sided. This will include vocabulary words, mini books, and activity sheets. Lessons may be printed double-sided, but our physical copies are all sent single-sided.
Some feel that the grades 7+ lesson extensions are sufficient for 7th and 8th graders, while some do not. You may take a look at the lesson extensions in the sample pages and make your own judgment. Keep in mind that our future high school science courses will cover all of the K-6 topics again in greater depth, so students will eventually receive all the information they need. We do not have plans to release science courses for grades 7-8. However, we are working on optional books for 7th and 8th graders that accompany each unit and give students practice reading more difficult science materials.
Our high school science courses are projected to begin releasing in 2019. We plan to release the following courses: Earth & Space Science, Biology, and Physical Science. These non-accredited courses will be faith-based and self-directed through a course book, including hands-on experiments and some online videos, with parent-administered tests. The courses are being created by a talented team composed of college professors, educators, writers, reviewers, and editors, all overseen by the vision of Jenny Phillips.
