Handwriting Level 1 is for children in first grade. This level focuses on the correct print formation of letters and numbers and, near the end of the course, introduces short words and sentences. The course starts with larger print and, near the end, starts to reduce the size as children’s motor skills improve. At the beginning of the course and at different times throughout the course, children will do “overview” sheets. These sheets allow children general exposure to all letters and numbers. The rest of the course introduces 2–3 new letters at a time, going in the order of the most used letters. This approach helps children to focus on mastering letters before moving on, but at the same time lets children have some experience with all letters, which may be helpful as children may need to write words and letters in other subjects. Handwriting 1 is side-bound.
